There are lots of writing communities out there to help you in your writing journey. Some are local, some are online. Some are free, others are paid. Finding the right community for you can be a challenge.
Here at The Writing Society, we only want you to join us if you truly think it’s the right decision for you. If it isn’t, we’ll tell you and try our best to point you in the direction of somewhere or—someone—else that can help.
It’s our goal to help you be the best writer you can be, and we can only do that if we’re 100% honest with you.
So, with that in mind, here are nine benefits of joining The Writing Society:
1. Learn the rules…so you can break them
Here at The Writing Society, we love a little rule-breaking.
And there are A LOT of rules when it comes to writing.
You don’t have to follow them, but you do have to know them.
It’s only when you know them that you can break them down and use the elements that are best suited to you and your writing.
2. Keep your writing front of mind
We’re around every day in the Facebook group to get you thinking—and talking—about writing.
Whether it’s setting goals, sharing setbacks, celebrating successes, or talking about how to fix things, our group is the place to be if you want to talk writing.
We’re big fans of talking about writing because the more you talk about writing, the more likely to are to want to write…meaning the more writing you get done.
We also have weekly sessions in the group on a variety of topics that can teach you new skills, enhance your work in progress, and help you build your writing business.
Sessions are available as replays in our members dashboard too, so don’t worry if you can’t make them live.
3. Receive love and support
You’ll struggle to find a writing community as encouraging and supportive as The Writing Society. We’re a diverse group and are always happy to help each other.
Whether you’ve hit a wall on your work in progress, been rejected by a publication, or you’re feeling despondent for another reason, we’ve got the tools and the moral support to get you back on your feet in no time.
4. A place to share your journey
We have an accountability buddy scheme that helps our members to check in with each other and set goals with someone who can hold them accountable (and vice versa).
When you struggle to commit to things or finish them, an accountability buddy can be great motivation!
Our members that have taken part have gone on to form long-lasting friendships and get their writing done. Now that’s motivation.
5. Our teachers’ backgrounds
The Writing Society’s lessons are taught by the very best. Our tutors are bestsellers, award-winners, university postgraduates, and downright awesome.
We’ve got guest sessions featuring author and editor Alexa Whitewolf, owner of Wordsmith HQ Dr Sophie-Louise Hyde, and more to come!
6. Get your problems solved!
Stuck on your work in progress? Don’t know where to go next? Get a fresh perspective in our members-only community! You never know—the solution might be simpler than you think. Sometimes all you need is to talk to someone disconnected and objective to figure out what’s been right in front of you all along!
7. Learn at your own pace
Members get access to all the courses we’ve ever taught. That means whenever you need a refresher or want to refer back to something, it’s right there.
Past sessions have included novel planning, characterisation, overcoming writer’s block, and dealing with feedback.
8. Community activities
There’s always something going on in our community, whether that’s group discussions, live writing sprints, Q&As, or even quizzes!
Even lurkers can enjoy the content happening in our community.
9. Finally get that book written!
Stop wanting to write a book. Start actually writing it. Whatever stage you’re at, we’ve got the tools and techniques you need to write the book you’ve always dreamed of writing.
And, when you’re ready, we’re here to help you publish it too.
